Concerts in the Park

The silence was deafening in 2020. We all felt it and knew why, but, having boomeranged back to St. Louis after being gone for four years, moving back into the Lafayette Square neighborhood just didn’t have the same vibe without the beloved Saturday night concerts in the park.

Heading into the spring, the question of whether or not the concerts would return was the topic of conversations with neighbors on the streets and friends in the park. With much jubilation and glee, the news that the concerts would, in fact, return for 2021 rang as loud as the Sunday morning church bells.

The concerts in the park are an honored tradition where people can gather to listen to eat, drink, and rock out to local musicians. Kicking off the summer series was the ever-so-retro-and-fabulous Ralph Butler Band, who’s swinging covers and sounds of Motown have been making this park jump for years, as the official start of the July 4th holiday weekend. The inaugural concert crowd showed up in droves, carrying lawn chairs, pop-up tables, picnic dinners, and smiles with friends to the park, singing and dancing well into the night.

Here’s who was on deck in 2021:

  • July 4: Ralph Butler Band
  • July 17: Jeremiah Johnson
  • July 31: The Antics
  • August 14: Rogers & Nienhaus
  • August 28: Retro Boogie Band

While navigating the relaunch of concerts during COVID times was no easy task, the final concert of the year is set for September 11 with the St. Louis Social Club, who will bring down the curtain on what was surely the most welcome return of the sounds of music in this park’s history.
