Arts Council of Lafayette Square
About
The Arts Council of Lafayette Square is the longest continuously running arts council in Missouri. We were organized in 1981 as a nonprofit with a mission to use visual and performing arts to connect the diverse socioeconomic communities of the greater St. Louis region. We sponsor a variety of arts-related events to encourage the exchange of ideas, promote collaboration with civic partners, and provide outreach to those who do not routinely have access to the arts. By doing so, we hope to contribute to the revitalization of the city, strengthen community bonds and create a lasting appreciation of the arts.
We host free concerts every other week throughout the summer in Lafayette Park. Our concerts run every other weekend from the first weekend in June until the beginning of September. We also host Hearts in the Park for Valentine’s Day, an Arts Fair during the Spring Home & Garden Tour, and ornament decorating at Light Up the Square. All of our events are free. We cover our expenses through donations and raffles.

A rich history.
Lafayette Square is one of St. Louis’s most vibrant historic neighborhoods, known for its restored Victorian homes and Lafayette Park, the city’s oldest public park, established in 1836. Once a post–Civil War enclave for St. Louis’s elite, the area declined after the 1896 tornado but was revitalized beginning in the 1970s when residents launched preservation efforts. Designated the city’s first historic district in 1972, Lafayette Square today blends architectural beauty, community spirit and a deep connection to St. Louis’s past.
