Arts Council of Lafayette Square
We keep you entertained all summer long!
The mission of the Arts Council of Lafayette Square is to use visual and performing arts to connect the diverse socioeconomic communities of the greater St. Louis region. We will accomplish this by sponsoring a variety of events to encourage the exchange of ideas, collaboration with civic partners, and outreach to those who do not routinely have access to the arts. These actions will contribute to the revitalization of the city, strengthening of community bonds, and creating a lasting appreciation of the arts.
If you would like to help support the mission of the Arts Council through a donation of time, talent or funds, please see our donation or volunteer forms.
We appreciate your support!
Mission
The Arts Council of Lafayette Square was organized in 1981 with a mission to use visual and performing arts to connect the diverse socioeconomic communities of the greater St. Louis region. To accomplish this we sponsor a variety of arts-related events to encourage the exchange of ideas, promote collaboration with civic partners, and provide outreach to those who do not routinely have access to the arts. By doing so, we hope to contribute to the revitalization of the city, strengthen community bonds and create a lasting appreciation of the arts.
Through the years, we have hosted Opera Promenades, Plein Aire Art Competitions, movies in the park, Halloween parties and multiple other kids activities. Since 1982, the Arts Council of Lafayette Square has hosted band concerts every other week throughout the summer in Lafayette Park, and everyone is invited. Each concert starts at 6 on a Saturday evening and features a different band. Our first concert of the season is usually the first weekend in June, coinciding with the neighborhood house and garden tour. Then it’s every other weekend until the beginning of September.
All of our events are free. We cover our expenses through donations and raffles.

A rich history.
Lafayette Square is one of St. Louis’s most vibrant historic neighborhoods, known for its restored Victorian homes and Lafayette Park, the city’s oldest public park, established in 1836. Once a post–Civil War enclave for St. Louis’s elite, the area declined after the 1896 tornado but was revitalized beginning in the 1970s when residents launched preservation efforts. Designated the city’s first historic district in 1972, Lafayette Square today blends architectural beauty, community spirit and a deep connection to St. Louis’s past.
