Lafayette Square Strategic Plan Approaches Launch (and we need your input!)

From Strategic Plan Committee Member Linda Weiner:

The draft of the Strategic Plan was released for community comment on June 3, 2020 and we would love to hear from you!

**Please send your comments, ideas, and responses to beth@shockeyconsulting.com

The community comment period for the Strategic Plan will continue until September 12, 2020, followed by the Lafayette Square Strategic Plan LAUNCH, sometime in the first week of October (date TBA).  The LAUNCH of the Strategic Plan will be presented virtually and it will be a time for us to provide a brief review, summarize feedback, and respond to questions, and join in celebration of the accomplishment of this community milestone!  At that time we will be calling for volunteers to join several committees as we move to Phase 2, implementation of the Strategic Plan’s goals and objectives over the next five years.  An application to volunteer for the Implementation Committee will be available soon.

As the public comment period for the community has commenced, we need your feedback regarding the Plan and the five goals identified through our survey and meetings :

  1. Improving coordination between the community organizations that represent us
  2. Enhancing neighborhood safety
  3. Encouraging Historic Preservation and neighborhood character
  4. Bringing people together
  5. Supporting neighborhood livability

Besides identifying our goals, the Strategic Plan also lays out objectives and action steps to get to those goals, and suggested time frames for reaching them. Here are some questions we’d love for you to think about as we move forward in the public commenting period.

  • What do you think about the objectives listed?  About the time frames?  Too fast?  Too slow?
  • What do you think of the potential funding strategies to stabilize the neighborhood financially such as new events and fundraising undertaken by our residents?
  • What do you think of the idea of hiring a part-time volunteer coordinator?

A few of the suggested objectives of the Strategic Plan have already been achieved or are in process!  The new website for better coordination and connection and better community interface, the recent Community Involvement Survey seeking volunteers and reaching out to all residents to join in, and the beginning of a new resident welcoming plan.

There is so much opportunity ahead!

We encourage you to review the Strategic Plan and send your comments, ideas, and responses to beth@shockeyconsulting.com

Many thanks to all the residents, visitors, and Committee members who have participated in this important work of charting our future.
